Obverse description The omphalos of Apollo rendered in fine relief at center, depicted as a domed, lattice-banded sacred stone with a serpent coiled around its base. Above the omphalos lies a horizontal bee, the civic emblem of Ephesos, rendered with characteristic dotted body and outstretched wings. The entire central device is encircled by a wreath composed of alternating grape clusters and curved vine tendrils, giving the design a rich, organic border characteristic of Hellenistic Ionian coinage.
