Obverse description Slow quadriga proceeding right, driven by a charioteer holding kentron and reins; Nike flies left above the scene, crowning the charioteer with a wreath. A ketos (sea monster) swims rightward in the exergue beneath the horses. The composition is rendered in the fine early classical style characteristic of Syracusan coinage of the second quarter of the fifth century BC.
