Kamarina was destroyed twice — first by Syracuse in 552 BC, then again in 484 BC when Gelon forcibly relocated its population. The city was refounded in 461 BC, and it is during this third and final phase of habitation that the coinage bearing these catalog references was struck. The city fell permanently to Carthage around 405 BC, which closes the dating window on this issue absolutely.
Westermark and Jenkins remains the definitive die study for Kamarinaean coinage, and pieces attributable to their die 146 grouping are traceable to a remarkably small number of obverse dies — reflecting a mint that was productive but geographically constrained.
