| Reverse description | Quadripartite incuse square divided by a bold cruciform pattern into four recessed compartments of alternating depths, a hallmark of early northern Greek and Macedonian silver coinage of the late Archaic period. The four quarters display shallow, roughly textured surfaces resulting from the hammered punch technique. No legend or device appears within the incuse square. The incuse reverse is characteristic of the earliest phase of Greek coinage in the Thermaic Gulf region, reflecting influence from Macedonian and Chalcidian minting traditions of circa 510–480 BC. |
