| Obverse description | Eagle standing to left with closed wings, rendered in fine archaic relief with carefully detailed feathering across the breast and folded primaries. The bird is depicted in profile with head erect and talons gripping a plain ground line. The Greek ethnic legend ΑΚΡΑΓΑΝΤΟΣ is distributed in the field around the figure, reading retrograde in the early Sicilian epichoric script. The composition fills the flan with commanding presence, characteristic of the celebrated early coinage of Akragas. |
