Obverse description Donkey standing to right in high relief, rendered with characteristic archaic vitality, its head turned slightly forward. Behind the animal, a tall grapevine extends upward bearing a large cluster of grapes flanked by two leaves, emblematic of the wine-producing city of Mende. A partial Greek inscription appears beneath the animal in the lower field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border on an irregular flan typical of early Macedonian coinage.

Reverse description Quadripartite incuse square divided into four recessed triangular compartments by raised ridges meeting at the centre, with a prominent raised annulet at the intersection of the ridges. The incuse is deeply impressed and displays the characteristic windmill or pinwheel arrangement typical of early northern Greek coinage of the late Archaic period. The surface of the flan surrounding the incuse is plain and unadorned, with visible file marks from the minting process.
