| Beschrijving voorzijde | Laureate head of Apollo facing left, rendered in fine Classical Greek style with carefully engraved flowing hair swept back and bound by a laurel wreath, the individual leaves and berries of which are rendered with considerable detail. The deity's idealized facial features display a strong, straight nose, slightly parted lips, and a well-modelled chin, characteristic of the mature Sicilian die-engraving tradition of the late fifth century BC. The neck is broad and naturalistic, and the hair falls in long, wavy locks behind the ear. A beaded border is visible along the upper periphery of the flan. |
