Kamarina was destroyed twice — first by Syracuse in 552 BC, then by Gela in 405 BC — and this tetradrachm falls within the city's third and final period of occupation, a roughly two-decade window before the Carthaginian sack that permanently ended the mint. The city had been refounded under Syracusan supervision in 461 BC, which explains the strong stylistic debt to Syracusan coinage visible across the entire series.
Westermark and Jenkins' 1980 die study remains the definitive reference for Kamarina's silver, cataloguing enough die links to confirm that output was modest throughout this period.
