| Obverse description | Facing head of Helios, rendered in high relief with a three-quarter turn slightly to the right, his youthful visage framed by luxuriantly flowing, tightly curled hair radiating outward in all directions in the manner characteristic of the solar deity. The modelling is of exceptional quality, displaying the refined naturalism associated with early Rhodian coinage following the synoikism of 408 BC. The broad, uncluttered field allows the powerful effigy to dominate the flan entirely, with no border or legend. |
