| Obverse description | Slow quadriga proceeding left, driven by the nymph Himera who holds the kentron in her right hand and the reins in both hands; above, Nike flies rightward, extending a wreath held in both hands to crown the charioteer. The composition is rendered in the grand Sicilian chariot-race tradition, with the horses depicted in careful detail. The ethnic legend IMEPAION appears in the exergue below the ground line, inscribed in archaic Greek characters. |
