| Beschrijving keerzijde | Incuse square of shallow depth containing the head of a silphium plant or, as identified in certain catalogue attributions, the forepart of a ram or comparable animal figure rendered in incuse relief, set within a dotted border that frames a recessed square compartment. The incuse technique is characteristic of early fifth-century BC Greek coinage influenced by South Italian and Kyrenaican traditions. The square punch is clearly defined with beaded borders on all four sides, the interior design pressed deeply into the flan. The field beyond the square is plain and slightly raised, with the irregular coin edge reflecting hand-hammered manufacture. |
