| Beschrijving keerzijde | Two eagles perched to the right upon a dead hare lying on a rocky outcrop; the nearer eagle stands with wings closed and head raised in a posture of triumph, while the farther eagle spreads its wings and inclines its head downward to tear at the prey — a composition of dramatic naturalism unique to Akragantine coinage of this period. To the left in the field, a lion's head faces left with jaws agape, rendered in high relief as a secondary device. The scene is among the most celebrated in all of ancient Greek numismatic art, reflecting the prosperity and artistic ambition of Akragas at its zenith. |
