The central group is enclosed within a wreath of olive or ivy leaves executed in high relief, the branches curving symmetrically around the entire field. Magistrate initials or monograms appear in the lower field flanking the statue's base. The overall composition is typical of the civic coinage of Mytilene in the second century BC. |
