Reverse description Forepart of a bearded man-headed bull emerging to right, representing the Gelas river god, the eponymous deity and civic emblem of the city of Gela. The head is rendered with archaic vigor, featuring a full beard, deeply set eyes, and short horns curving above the human face. The ethnic inscription CEΛAΣ is disposed in the upper field above the protome. The entire design is contained within a shallow incuse circle, a hallmark of early Sicilian coinage technique, leaving a distinctive recessed border around the central type.
