| Reverse description | Deep quadripartite incuse square divided into four triangular compartments arranged in a pinwheel or mill-sail pattern, each section recessed into the flan. The four-armed windmill-like design is sharply struck, with clean, well-defined ridges separating each incuse lobe. The reverse is entirely without inscription or additional devices, the incuse motif serving as the sole decorative and functional element. This distinctive reverse type is characteristic of early archaic silver coinage from Mende and reflects the punch technique of the period. |
