| Beschrijving keerzijde | A quadripartite incuse square dominates the reverse, divided by raised ridges into four equal compartments, each filled with a granular or dotted surface texture giving a distinctive pellet-studded appearance. The ethnic legend AKANΘΙΟΝ is distributed around the perimeter of the incuse square, with individual letters or letter groups placed in each corner and along the sides of the design field. Two small circular devices — one plain and one with a central pellet resembling a concentric circle — appear at the lower left and lower right, serving as additional decorative or die-control elements. The entire composition is set within a deep incuse square, a hallmark of early Macedonian and Thraco-Macedonian coinage of the fifth and early fourth centuries BC. |
