| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing head of a lion rendered in the distinctive Early Classical style, depicted frontally with a broad, flattened muzzle showing a ribbed or striated nose bridge, large bulging eyes, and prominent rounded ears flanking the crown of the head. The mane is rendered with bold, stylized incised striations radiating from the crown. A dotted border frames the design along the upper periphery of the flan. The powerful, almost mask-like frontality of the lion head is characteristic of the celebrated die-engravers active at Rhegion during the mid-fifth century BC. |
