正面描述 Facing left, the bearded head of Dionysos in high relief, his long flowing hair rendered in fine wavy strands falling to the neck. He wears an elaborate wreath of ivy leaves and berries crowning his head, depicted with naturalistic precision characteristic of the Thasian artistic tradition. The portrait fills the flan with commanding presence, the deeply modelled features including a prominent nose, fleshy lips, and a full beard with carefully articulated curls. The field is otherwise plain, with no inscription or border on this side.

附加信息

Thasos dominated the northern Aegean silver trade in the fifth and fourth centuries, drawing wealth from the gold and silver mines of the Thracian mainland opposite the island — the same mineral-rich territory that later attracted Philip II of Macedon and contributed directly to his military financing. This issue falls within the period when Athens had stripped Thasos of its autonomy following the failed Thasian revolt of 465–463 BC, a conflict that cost Athens two years of siege warfare. The island's eventual recovery of independent coinage rights marks one of the slower political rehabilitations of the classical Aegean.
