Obverse description Radiate rose in full bloom viewed from above, occupying the central field with prominent spreading petals and a rounded bud at centre. Flanking the base of the rose stem are secondary buds and symbolic devices: a rose bud on a stem to the lower left, and a lyre to the lower right. The legend ΡΟΔΙΟΝ is inscribed in archaic Greek characters along the upper field, identifying the issuing city of Rhodes.
