He wears the Macedonian kausia hat, a chiton, and a sheathed sword suspended at his side; his right hand holds an upright spear, while his left hand rests on the hilt of the sword. The ethnic legend AITΩΛΩN appears in the field, and a monogram is placed to the right of the figure. The composition alludes powerfully to Aetolian military prowess and their celebrated defense of Delphi against the Gauls in 279 BC. |
