| Obverse description | Youthful head of Herakles facing right, clad in the Nemean lion skin headdress, with the scalp knotted beneath the chin; the mane rendered in bold relief with deeply cut curling locks framing the face. The facial features display the idealized Hellenistic style characteristic of post-Alexandrine league coinage, with a prominent brow, well-defined nose, and slightly parted lips. The flan is irregular and the strike robust, as typical of third-century BC Greek federal issues. |

| Reverse description | The eponymous hero Aitolos depicted seated right upon a pile of Gallic shields, the shields prominently marked with the letters A and ΛY, referencing Aetolian victories over Galatian invaders. He wears the Macedonian kausia hat, a chiton, and a sheathed sword suspended at his side; his right hand holds an upright spear, while his left hand rests on the hilt of the sword. The ethnic legend AITΩΛΩN appears in the field, and a monogram is placed to the right of the figure. The composition alludes powerfully to Aetolian military prowess and their celebrated defense of Delphi against the Gauls in 279 BC. |
