Obverse description Laureate head of Apollo facing left, rendered in fine Classical style with naturalistic modelling; the deity's hair is elaborately dressed, bound up at the nape with loose curls falling at the temples, and crowned with a laurel wreath whose leaves are depicted with careful detail. The flan border is ornamented with a beaded dotted circle. The portrait displays the idealized, serene physiognomy characteristic of Sicilian Greek coinage of the mid-fifth century BC.

Reverse description Lion's head facing left with jaws wide open, tongue visible, rendered with bold and expressive modelling characteristic of the Leontinoi mint's finest die work. Surrounding the central device are three barley grains arranged in the field — one above, one to the left, and one below — serving as civic symbols of the city. A single laurel leaf appears behind the lion's head to the right. The ethnic legend ΛΕΟΝΤΙΝΟΝ is distributed around the design in Greek characters.
