| Obverse description | Dionysos, bearded and draped in a himation, reclines to left upon the back of a donkey walking to right; the god holds a kantharos in his raised right hand while his left arm, bearing an ivy wreath, rests upon the animal's back. An ivy wreath is placed upon the donkey's head. On the ground line to the right, a crow perches to right within an ivy plant. The composition is rendered in a bold, archaic Greek style with strong plastic modelling. |
