| Reverse description | Aegestes, the city's eponymous founder, depicted as a hunter standing to the right, his left foot raised and resting upon a rocky outcrop. His right hand rests upon his hip while his left arm, draped in a chlamys, is bent at the elbow resting on his knee, with two javelins held in the left hand. He wears a pilos helmet suspended behind the neck by its strap, ankle-boots (cothurni), and a sword suspended from a baldric over his left shoulder. At his feet, two hounds are shown moving to the right, and in the right field stands an ithyphallic herm wearing a petasus, facing left. The encircling legend EΓEΣTAION identifies the citizens of Segesta as the issuing authority. |
