These tetradrachms were struck at a Sicilian mint operating under Carthaginian control during one of the most violent periods of the western Mediterranean — the decades bracketing Timoleon's campaign against Carthage and the Sicilian tyrants. The precise mint location remains disputed; Jenkins placed several dies within Sicily itself rather than North Africa, suggesting mobile or opportunistic production tied to military financing rather than any permanent civic institution.
The Jenkins P3 grouping isolates these pieces by die linkage, not findspot, which is why the reference numbers scatter across so many major collections.
