Reverse description The ethnic legend ΜΕΝΔΑΙΟΝ is disposed around the four sides of a linear square, reading in four segments: ΜΕΝ – ΔΑ – ΙΟ – Ν. Within the square, a circular disk bears a sixteen-rayed star, flanked in each corner by a pendant grape cluster, alluding to the celebrated wines of Mende. The entire design is set within a deeply recessed incuse square, characteristic of early northern Aegean coinage.
