Reverse description A quadripartite incuse square with a dotted or granular surface texture, divided into four compartments by raised lines forming a cross pattern, all contained within a deep incuse square. The ethnic legend AKANΘΙΟΝ is distributed around the outer border of the incuse square, with individual letters placed in the corners and along the sides of the design. The arrangement of the inscription around the geometric reverse field is a hallmark of early Akanthos coinage. The incuse technique reflects archaic die-cutting practice persisting into the Classical period in this region.
