Obverse description The enthroned figure of Baaltars, the supreme deity of Tarsus, depicted in three-quarter view seated to the left upon a high-backed throne. The god holds an eagle-tipped scepter upright in his right hand, while his left hand rests upon the throne arm. The figure is rendered in the Achaemenid-influenced Greco-Persian artistic style characteristic of the Babylonian satrapal coinage of the Alexandrian period.
