The rider wears a crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on his head, and a chlamys or short mantle streams behind him. The horse is depicted with fine anatomical detail, its tail curving downward and forelegs raised in a prancing stride. The composition fills the circular field with bold, high-relief modelling characteristic of the early Classical Sicilian style, with no legend on this side. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The bearded, horned head of the river-god Gelas depicted as a man-headed bull, advancing to the left in a vigorous running pose, forelegs raised and hindquarters lowered. The deity's face is shown in three-quarter view, rendered with expressive detail including a full beard, a small horn projecting from the forehead, and a winged helmet or cap. The figure occupies the majority of the field, and the ethnic legend ΓΕΛΑΣ (retrograde or standard) appears in the lower exergual area in archaic Greek characters. The style reflects the accomplished hand of a skilled Sicilian celator working in the early Classical tradition. |
