Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Tyche facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with delicate facial features and cascading locks of hair falling behind the neck. The goddess wears a prominent turreted crown, its battlemented towers rendered in careful relief, symbolising the city walls of Smyrna. A wreath of laurel or olive encircles the base of the crown. The portrait is boldly centred within the broad flan, with a smooth, unlettered field surrounding the effigy.
