| Reverse description | A large crab rendered frontally in high relief, centered within a shallow incuse field, its carapace deliberately stylized to evoke a human face — a characteristic artistic conceit of Akragantine coinage. The two prominent claws are raised above the carapace, while four pairs of legs extend laterally across the field with expressive, naturalistic articulation. The broad, striated incuse square that frames the type is typical of early Sicilian hammered coinage, and the flan edges show the irregular contour common to dies of this period. No legend or secondary device accompanies the type. |
