Reverse description A winged Nike (Victory) stands facing left in three-quarter view, draped in a chiton that falls to her feet, her large outstretched wings spread prominently behind her. She extends her right arm forward, holding a fillet or wreath toward a long-necked heron standing before her to the left. The legend ΚΑΤΑΝΑΙΟΝ runs along the upper periphery of the field within a dotted border, identifying the issuing city of Katane. The composition is elegant and dynamic, characteristic of the finest die-engraving traditions of early classical Sicily.
