Myrina, an Aeolian city on the western coast of Asia Minor, was among the leagues of cities granted the right to strike autonomous silver coinage following Rome's reorganization of the region after the defeat of Perseus of Macedon at Pydna in 168 BC. The Sacks corpus identifies distinct magistrate-controlled series within the Myrinaean tetradrachm output, with Sacks 7 representing one of the earlier groupings in that sequence.
The dies for this series show a consistent relationship with Pergamene weight standards, reflecting Myrina's position within that city's economic orbit before the Attalid bequest to Rome in 133 BC ended the region's monetary autonomy.
