Osroes I came to power amid a succession dispute that split the Parthian Empire between rival claimants — he ruled the western half while Vologases III controlled the east, a division that persisted for years before Osroes consolidated control. His reign then collided directly with Trajan's eastern campaigns of 113–117 AD, during which Roman forces briefly occupied Ctesiphon and Osroes lost the throne entirely, only to reclaim it after Trajan's death forced a Roman withdrawal.
Sellwood 80.7 is distinguished by the placement of a letter A to the left of the Tyche figure — a mint control mark that differentiates it from otherwise near-identical dies in the type.
