Orsobaris Musa was a Pontic queen who ruled conjointly with her son Darius following the Roman reorganization of the region after Actium. The coinage issued in their joint names reflects a deliberate legitimizing strategy — anchoring a new, Rome-approved dynasty to the older Mithridatic bloodline while signaling submission to Augustan authority. Prusias ad Mare, the mint city, had been a functioning Greek polis since at least the third century BC and retained enough civic infrastructure to produce bronze for local circulation well into the imperial period.
