Reverse description A tall columnar trophy or thyrsus-like cult object — rendered as a pillar surmounted by a wreath or floral finial and flanked by two crossed spears or javelins — occupies the center of the field. The inscription ΓΟΡΓΙΠΠΕΩΝ is distributed across the field in two columns flanking the central device, identifying the issuing city of Gorgippia. The arrangement of the legend and the central cult symbol are characteristic of civic bronze coinage of the Pontic sphere, struck with a slightly uneven flan and variable die alignment.
