Obverse description Laureate head of Zeus facing right, rendered in bold, high-relief style with a full, flowing beard and richly detailed curling locks radiating around the face. The portraiture reflects the Hellenistic artistic tradition characteristic of Pontic and Bithynian civic coinage of the late second to early first century BC. The broad, expressive features and deeply engraved hair convey divine majesty befitting the king of the Olympian gods. No legend appears on the obverse field.
