Obverse description Bare head of Ares facing right, wearing a crested Attic helmet with cheekpieces; the facial features are rendered with fine Hellenistic detail, showing a youthful, bearded visage. The helmet crest sweeps elegantly to the rear, and locks of hair are visible beneath the helmet brim. The portrait is set within a plain circular field with no legend, occupying the full flan in the Pontic royal tradition of associating the ruler with martial deities.
