Armenia Minor functioned as a client buffer zone between the Seleucid sphere and the expanding Pontic kingdom during this decade, and its coinage reflects that awkward political position. Mithridates — almost certainly Mithridates of Cius's dynastic line — was minting bronze in his own name at a moment when autonomous coinage in the region was more assertion than convenience. Kovacs 295 is among the scarcer Armenian Minor bronzes, with relatively few examples documented in major collections.
