The Greek inscription ΠΑΝ, an abbreviation for Pantikapaion (Panticapaeum), is distributed across the field flanking the central devices, with Π visible to the lower left and Α to the upper right as seen on the coin. A gorytos (Scythian bow-and-arrow case) countermark is applied to the field, reflecting the Scythian cultural milieu of the region.
