| Reverse description | Lion head facing left in high relief occupying the upper portion of the field, with a sturgeon depicted below in the lower field, referencing the abundant fish trade of the Bosporan Kingdom. The Greek inscription ΠΑΝ, an abbreviation for Pantikapaion (Panticapaeum), is distributed across the field flanking the central devices, with Π visible to the lower left and Α to the upper right as seen on the coin. A gorytos (Scythian bow-and-arrow case) countermark is applied to the field, reflecting the Scythian cultural milieu of the region. In certain emission varieties, the countermarks are reversed, with the gorytus appearing on the obverse and the star on the reverse. |
