| Beschrijving keerzijde | The goddess Bendis, depicted in three-quarter view seated left upon a rocky outcrop, attired in a short chiton, hunting boots (endromides), and a Phrygian cap, attributes emblematic of her Thracian origin and association with the hunt. In her extended right hand she holds an arrow, while her left hand grasps an upright spear; a bow and quiver are slung over her shoulder. The ethnic legend ΦΑΛΩΡΙΑΣΤΩΝ is disposed in the field around the figure, identifying the issuing community of Phaloria in Thessaly. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Phaloria was a minor Thessalian polis of limited political weight, but its coinage is notable precisely because the city minted at all. The settlement sat within the Hestiaeotis region, an area repeatedly destabilized by Macedonian expansion and the fractious politics of the Thessalian League throughout the third century. That a town of Phaloria's modest standing produced a bronze series during this period suggests a degree of local autonomy — or at least administrative tolerance — from whatever regional power held sway at the time.
The BCD collection, from which multiple lot references derive, remains the defining reference for Thessalian bronzes of this kind.
