| Obverse description | The Virgin Mary (Theotokos) depicted standing in three-quarter view toward the right upon a low footstool, nimbed, in the orans posture with arms raised in supplication, clothed in pallium and maphorium. The Hand of God issues from the upper right field in a gesture of benediction. Flanking inscriptions appear on either side of the central figure, and the design is enclosed within a beaded border. The style is characteristic of late Komnenian provincial Byzantine coinage, executed with the bold but somewhat rough workmanship typical of Cypriot issues of this period. |
