| Reverse description | Facing bust of Alexios I Komnenos in full imperial regalia, depicted wearing a crown with pendilia and jewelled loros. The emperor holds a patriarchal sceptre or cross-tipped staff in his right hand and in his left an orb or akakia. The bust is set within a beaded inner circle. Flanking inscription refers to the emperor in abbreviated Greek form. The style is typical of Thessalonican mint production under Alexios I, with bold but somewhat crude workmanship consistent with provincial hammered copper coinage. |
