| Obverse description | Forepart of a griffin facing right, rendered in archaic Greek style with characteristic hooked beak and upright ear visible in the field. The creature's head and neck are boldly modelled in high relief, occupying the majority of the obverse flan. The griffin was the civic emblem of Teos and appears as the principal type on all denominations of this series. The irregular flan edges are typical of early Ionian coinage of this period. |
