| Reverse description | Incuse quadripartite square divided by a raised cross into four recessed compartments, each containing a portion of the retrograde or abbreviated Greek inscription ΑΠΟΛ, referencing Apollo, the civic deity of Pantikapaion. The letters are distributed across the four quarters of the incuse square in an early archaic epigraphic style. The deeply sunken relief is consistent with early fifth-century BC hammered coinage technique from the northern Black Sea region. |
