Obverse description Right-facing bare-headed bust of Henry II, rendered in high relief in the Renaissance portrait style, wearing a richly ornamented breastplate decorated with studs and a ruffled collar visible at the neck. The effigy is strongly modelled, conveying the regal presence characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century French royal coinage. The circular Latin legend runs along the full periphery, separated from the bust by an inner beaded border.
