Obverse description Draped and bearded bust of Francis I facing right, wearing a flat cap with decorative brim, set within a plain inner circle. The king is depicted in Renaissance portrait style with naturalistic facial features including a short beard. The surrounding circular legend in Latin reads the royal title. The die work is characteristic of early 16th-century French hammered coinage.
