Obverse description Crowned effigy of Francis I facing right, depicted as a bare-necked bust with visible draped shoulders, surmounted by an elaborate fleurs-de-lis crown with pearled band. The portrait is rendered in the Renaissance style characteristic of the later Valois testons, with fine detail in the facial profile. The legend encircles the bust within a beaded inner circle, separated from the outer field by a raised cordoned border.

Reverse description Crowned French royal shield of arms semé-de-lis, surmounted by a large fleurs-de-lis crown, flanked on either side by a crowned ermine spot — the heraldic emblem of Brittany — each ermine spot itself topped by a small crown. The mint mark 'N' for Nantes appears at the base of the shield. The circular Latin legend surrounds the central device within a beaded border, typical of the hammered teston coinage of the Duchy of Brittany.
