| Obverse description | Draped bust of Marie de Montpensier, Princess of Dombes, facing left, wearing an elaborately ornamented dress with a ruffled collar and pearl necklace, her hair dressed and adorned. A small heraldic shield appears at the truncation of the bust. The portrait is rendered in the naturalistic style characteristic of early seventeenth-century French feudal coinage. The surrounding circular legend reads: + MARIA . P . DOMBAR . D . MONTISP . ♡, identifying the issuer as Mary, Princess of Dombes and Duchess of Montpensier. |
